Many things in life are difficult to attain, and among the most difficult is love. On Trevante Halliburton’s new single, “Be My Girl,” he espouses about getting the love of a young woman who is just out of his grasp. It’s the classic love story.
Trevante’s own story begins in 2005, when at the age of 12, left his hometown of Houston, Texas to pursue his dreams of being a musician. Upon arriving in Atlanta, Georgia, he and his family established Selsum Records. His first two singles, “That Girl” and “Baby Girl” were released on the family-operated record label.
After securing a distribution deal with FYE, Trevante embarked on a regional tour of in-store appearances throughout the South in support of the new release. Due to the exposure he received from the tour he was able to perform with artists such as Bow Wow, Keke Palmer, B5, and Nick Cannon. Trevante used his experience on this tour to perfect his live show.
“I love performing. I feel like I can just be myself. It doesn’t matter if I’ve had a bad day. I can be myself and just let go,” says Trevante. “I love it! It’s the best feeling in the world next to recording.”
Inspired by artists like Michael Jackson, Bobby Brown, El Debarge, NSYNC, and the Backstreet Boys, Trevante morphs these influences into his own genre which he dubs “jukebox.”
“It’s because you never know what to expect,” Trevante says with a smile.
Word of his incredible work ethic and engaging live performances quickly caught the attention of industry heavyweights. Trevante signed to Imani Entertainment Group/Interscope Records in 2010.
“He is the total package,” says Manny Halley, President of Imani Entertainment Group, “not only does he sing and dance, he is an incredible songwriter as well.”
First loves are relationships synonymous with innocence and purity. Trevante captures the epic rise and fall of first love on his single, “Be Your First.” Written and produced by R&B star, Tank, “Be Your First” is the classic story of a teenage boy’s promise to be a girl’s first love.
While working on his debut album, “I Am Trevante,” the young artist has enjoyed opportunities to work with an impressive roster of writers and producers including Chris Brown, Rodney Jerkins, Dianne Warren, Rico Love, Mischke, The Underdogs, Harmony “H Money,” and Troy Taylor.
“This album is special because it’s my introduction to the world,” Trevante says ofhis debut, “it shows both my R&B side and my Pop side and it’s just overall good
music. It’s about love and purity.”
